Voces Feminae
Distributed by Graphite Publishing
Voces Feminae translates roughly as “women’s voices” or “voice of a woman.” Throughout the development of Western civilization the intellectual works of men eclipsed women’s voices. One sad example is that of Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna Mozart (1751-1829). By all accounts she was as equally talented a musician and composer as her brother, but she was not encouraged or expected to pursue a career. Over the course of the centuries, many women composers did indeed write music, but their efforts were largely ignored. The Voces Feminae series aims to help bend the arc of history back towards these neglected composers. Some of the music in our series is presented as performing editions of historical repertoire, while others are new arrangements. It is our joy to share these works with modern audiences and to share the message that music composition is for everyone, no matter their gender.
