A Calendar of Light
SATB Chorus & Two-Part Audience
In A Calendar of Light, from which this movement is excerpted, our relationship to the changing seasons reflects our relationship to change itself, especially within the greater context of climate change. Barbara Crooker’s libretto asks resonant questions, holding us accountable for altering our relationship with the earth for the better. In The light gives up too early, the audience sings a simple round while the chorus gradually harmonizes around them. Ultimately, the piece is an invitation for reflection and community.

This work was commissioned by The Esoterics and is dedicated, with gratitude, to its Artistic Director, Eric Banks. A Calendar of Light was composed in part at the Tusen Takk Foundation, with thanks to Geoffrey Peckham and Patricia Melzer for their generous support.
