SATB, a cappella

In the Jewish tradition, one says or sings the Shehecheyanu prayer when doing something for the first time, whether it be for the first night of Rosh Hashanah or Passover, or something mundane like wearing a new shirt. Created for Congregation Rodfei Zedek in Chicago upon the rededication of its historic building, Miller took the pulse of his feet walking down the city streets and began shaping a melody which passes throughout the choir in Shehecheyanu. Miller shares that, “The piece should be sung with buoyant joy, as if one is walking down the street with the wonder of having just done something for the first time.”

Composer’s Notes

The piece should be sung with buoyant joy, as if one is walking down the street with the wonder of having just done something for the first time.
