Nobody Knows This Little Rose
An easy 3-part canon with a well-known Emily Dickinson poem.
3 equal voices (soloists or chorus), piano
Emily Dickinson’s little rose is actually known by many people, thanks to her famous poem. Hoekman’s setting is for three equal voices and is especially appropriate for middle school and high school treble choruses.
Text
Nobody knows this little Rose —
It might a pilgrim be
Did I not take it from the ways
And lift it up to thee.
Only a Bee will miss it —
Only a Butterfly,
Hastening from far journey —
On its breast to lie —
Only a Bird will wonder —
Only a Breeze will sigh —
Ah Little Rose — how easy
For such as thee to die!
