Amazing Grace
A beautiful blend of new harmonies and rhythms with the original melody.
SATB, SAT soli, a cappella
Paul John Rudoi’s arrangement of “Amazing Grace” combines the well known text and music with the “Vidi Aquam” chant taken from the traditional mass. The chant’s text is used in the choir as a fluid, rippling underlay beneath the soaring “Amazing Grace” solo lines. Whether programming for the concert stage or a more sacred setting, Rudoi has created a beautiful piece, blending new harmonies and rhythms with the original melody.
Text
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
‘Twas grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.
Vidi aquam egredientem de templo,
a latere dextro, alleluia:
et omnes, ad quos pervenit aqua ista,
salvi facti sunt, et dicent, alleluia, alleluia.
I saw water coming forth from the temple
on the right side, alleluia:
and all those to whom this water came
were saved, and shall say, alleluia, alleluia.
