The Lord’s Prayer
Philip Moody
Accessible for all treble voices, with twists and turns through non-traditional harmonic progressions.
SSA, piano
Originally written for solo voice and piano, this setting of “The Lord’s Prayer” has great impact as a treble selection. Accessible to young voices in a treble or boy choir, but also a great addition to high school, collegiate, or adult church choirs. The piece twists and turns through some non-traditional harmonic progressions.

Composer’s Notes
My setting of The Lord’s Prayer was originally for a solo voice and piano. It started as a compositional assignment back at Saint Olaf College and one of my classmates asked if she could sing my setting for a wedding that summer. I of course was flattered, and it then began to be heard here and there as time went on. Although I always liked the solo voice setting (singing it a few times myself), I felt that the piece could have a greater impact as a treble selection. Accessible to young voices in a treble or boy choir, but also a great addition to high school or collegiate women’s choruses, or the women of an adult church choir as something to “have in their back pocket, just in case.” I hope you enjoy this setting as much as I enjoyed writing it, with it’s twists and turns through a bit of non-traditional harmonic progressions.

Text
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory for ever and ever.
Amen.
