Composer’s Notes
The music for the piece was inspired by my friend and poet Lark Underwood in 2020. It’s no secret that the social climate of our communities is conflicted. Yet, above all we chose to promote a spirit of gratitude for those whose hearts and wills propel them to sacrifice for the safety of all communities. We desire that this piece will shine a much-needed light on the unsung heroes and bring our communities together in love.

Text
Somewhere right now
An EMT holds a casualty,
Calming panic in the midst of tragedy.
A grateful smile blossoms silently.
So we thank you for the lives who serve!
No hug will ever be fierce enough,
No words can ever express enough,
No smile will ever be wide enough to thank you.
Oh, you will always be in my thoughts.
I smile ev’ry time I recall.
No smile will ever be wide enough to thank you.
You will always be in my prayers.
A firefighter crawling among the rubble
Moves toward unnerving sounds of trouble
Hand grabbing hand, listen; joy from the grateful!
Near us law enforcement personnel strive
Each hour to safeguard cities, homes, and lives.
Trained experience let’s calm survive.
Through storm and fire, wind and rain you prevail.
You sacrifice to save our lives.
Our trust will never fail!
My mind and heart repeat,
You are my hero for all you have done
Thank you!
