Now (Yosemite Valley)
Nature often echoes life’s most beautiful moments; attend creation’s morning when the world begun.
SATB Chorus & Piano
Commissioned by Dr. Colleen Chester and the Winona State University Concert Choir, “Now” is a piece that invites the listener to the dawn of creation, set in the mountainous landscape of Yosemite Valley. Author Harriett Monroe depicts a morning like no other with running rivers and cliffs browed with clouds, all singing to the shinning sun. It is a day that calls for admiration to the world we know and love. The chorus sings as one with a beautiful yet simple structure before diving into the mysterious and divine formation of the forest and ranged peaks. Singable and enjoyable, this piece is a great opener for a spring concert or festival program.
Text
It is creation’s morning-
Fresh as the rivers run.
The cliffs, white brows adorning,
Sing to the shining sun.
The forest, plumed and crowned,
Scales the steep granite wall.
The ranged peaks, glacier-bound,
They march in their grand hall.
The mountains dance together,
Lifting their domed heads high.
The cataract’s foamy feather
Flaunts in the streaming sky.
It is creation’s morning-
Now is the world begun.
