Come, Let Us Go Up to the Mountain of the Lord
Words from Micah 4 describe a time when nations will learn war no more.
SATB chorus, piano
Prophet Songs is a 24-movement oratorio for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone soloists, SATB chorus, and orchestra. Part I of the oratorio gives musical expression to many and sundry Old Testament prophetic voices, from Moses and Miriam to Malachi. Part II explores the various voices and perspectives found in the book of Isaiah. Throughout the work, the prophetic voices sing the mighty acts of God and call God’s people back from unfaithfulness, using threats of punishment, but also exuberantly rejoicing in the promises of God’s steadfast love.
Micah 4 is the source of the text for “Come, Let Us Go Up to the Mountain of the Lord.” This passage describes a time when nations will learn war no more.

Text
Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. There we will learn the paths of the Lord and how to walk in God’s ways. God will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes between the nations. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they learn war anymore.
