Written for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and singers from North Minneapolis, this piece explores the values of community, specifically those who are mis-judged through bias and prejudice. It challenges us to see through our biases and see people for who they are, not for where they live or how they are mis-represented. The singable vocal lines in Takach’s “True North” are accessible for high school and community chorus, and the orchestra adds beautiful ensemble color and solo lines to the texture. An anchor piece for programs about acceptance, social change, and community.
