Love is Enough
A simple, transcendent SATB setting of the wondrous and living power of love amid a gloomy world.
SATB div. a cappella.
Commissioned by a group of loving friends in honor of the wedding of two they cared for deeply, Love is enough is a simple, yet immeasurable declaration of the transcendent and unassailable power of real love. What an incredible and humbling truth it remains that through shadow, fear, veil, or void, real love will not weary or alter. It will not be dimmed, distracted, or dismayed. With very approachable ranges, tuneful melodies, agreeable harmonies, and challenges of substance, Love is enough would be a welcome and meaningful choice for nearly any mixed ensemble.
Text
And the woods have no voice but the voice of complaining,
Though the sky be too dark for dim eyes to discover
The gold-cups and daisies fair blooming thereunder,
Though the hills be held shadows, and the sea a dark wonder,
And this day draw a veil over all deeds pass’d over,
Yet their hands shall not tremble, their feet shall not falter;
The void shall not weary, the fear shall not alter
These lips and these eyes of the loved and the lover.
William Morris (1834-1896)
