for 2-part treble voices and piano

In this fun, easy song, young singers are encouraged to join voices in an easily singable melody. “Invitación” is also flexible; the second voice part is dispensable. Hand claps add a dynamic element while also teaching rhythm. The positive, happy text reminds children that everyone is welcome to join in the joy and laughter of life. For non-Spanish speakers, “Invitación” also serves as a great opportunity to sing in a new language.

Composer’s Notes

“Invitación” (Invitation) is a composition supported by the Program for the Stimulation of Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA) 2021. Dedicated to the Community Choir of the Veracruz Institute of Culture (IVEC) “Acatl-tlan”, it was written with the aim of providing simple repertoire for this choir, which had recently been founded.

The text is a poetic invitation to share moments of happiness and fulfillment with someone special. From galloping through wet streets to walking hand in hand as if they were a poem. The author Elena Ortíz Muñiz invites to experience the joy and beauty of being together with that special person. Musically, it is recommended to explore emotional expression through gestures and movement. As the piece was written for beginner children’s choirs, the importance of unison is emphasized, and precision in rhythm is recommended. The applause in the piece aims to add a fun and energetic element to the performance.

Text

TRANSLATION:
I invite you to gallop through the wet streets
To soak ourselves in dreams and in life
Let’s laugh like fools until everything hurts
I invite you to be happy, to be happy with me.

I invite you to walk serenely like a poem,
Hand in hand as the stanzas
Whisper verses between traffic lights and advertisements
I invite you to be happy, to be happy with me.

I invite you to be a horizon to catch sunsets.
And wield joyfully the rainbow
That timidly peek s out after the rain
I invite you to be happy, to be happy with me.

I invite you to fly like kites in the wind,
Let’s embroider their colors across the sky,
Let’s be birds full of life through the heavens,
I invite you to be happy, to be happy with me.
