Dangerous Men
“The dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”
TTBB Choir and Drums
Dangerous Men was commissioned for the 2015-2016 Minnesota All State TTBB Choir. The text, taken from T.E. Lawrence’s “Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph,” is given a different take in Paul’s setting, viewing the idea of dangerous men as those with ideas that could actually change the world. The danger, then, is whether we stay in a problematic state, or make the world better for all.
Composer’s Notes
Consider the piece to be theatrical. The opening section should be introspective, leading to an outburst of energy, then questioning what dreams could actually mean by the end of the work.

Text
“All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”
– T.E. Lawrence
