SATB a cappella
“SONG OF SKY AND SEA: A Song of Realization” is a dynamic, narrative cycle based on translations of Hafiz, Kabir, and Rumi. This third movement, “Two Falling Stars”, is the moment when we move beyond feeling the Divine presence and start to touch and be of the same form. Each section grows slowly, exponentially, feeding off the harmonic and melodic textures of the previous movements, creating sounds that will envelope the audience and leave them breathless.
Composer’s Notes
The “Two Falling Stars” movement is, like At Every Instant, about slow building and patience. Allow the textures to grow and organically interrupt one another, building to the climax in m45. From there, allow the space between the sections/soloists to envelope the audience and the choir, so the beginning of the final movement feels truly needed.

Text
Let us be like
Two falling stars in the day sky.
Let no one know of our sublime beauty As we hold hands with God
And burn
Into a sacred existence that defies – That surpasses
Every description of ecstasy
And love.
– Kabir, translated by Daniel Ladinsky, from “The Subject Tonight is Love”.
