This setting of the Aaronic Benediction features a lush, dark, winding texture, offering a pensive interpretation of the words “The Lord bless you and keep you.” The chromatic, unaccompanied choral introduction gives way to a steady eighth-note-based piano accompaniment that continues underneath the longer melodic phrases. This piece is ideal for collegiate or professional ensembles, as well as advanced church choirs.
Composer’s Notes
This is the seventh and final movement of my doctoral dissertation, “Divine Service: A
Lutheran Mass.” Originally scored for organ, brass, strings and percussion, I adapted
this version for SATB and piano so it can still utilize the strings (and limited percussion), if desired. Email dvonkampen@gmail.com to request the additional instrumental parts.
