Seek the Lord
A modal treatment of “Seek the Lord while he may be found.” Words from Isaiah 55.

Prophet Songs is a 24-movement oratorio for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone soloists, SATB chorus, and orchestra. Part I of the oratorio gives musical expression to many and sundry Old Testament prophetic voices, from Moses and Miriam to Malachi. Part II explores the various voices and perspectives found in the book of Isaiah. Throughout the work, the prophetic voices sing the mighty acts of God and call God’s people back from unfaithfulness, using threats of punishment, but also exuberantly rejoicing in the promises of God’s steadfast love.
“Seek the Lord” is for SATB chorus. The accompaniment works well on organ but can also be played on piano if preferred. The music makes extensive use of the Phrygian mode. In the words of Isaiah 55:6-8, the prophet admonishes us to return to God, who will forgive abundantly.

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways. Let the unrighteous forsake their thoughts. Return to God, who will forgive abundantly.
God says: My thoughts are not your thoughts, your ways are not my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours.
