Tiny Sparks
A delightful round: “when we touched, there were all these tiny little sparks”
4-part round with opt. percussion
Commissioned in collaboration with Graphite Publishing by the 2015-2016 Hopkins High School Choral Program, Philip Brown, conductor.
Meant to capture the invisible ties that bind us together, “Tiny Sparks” is a concert piece written as a round. The score consists of two distinct parts of the piece, each done in a round. Takach has woven a delightful melody throughout the opening, and playful rhythms infuse the second half. Your singers will find delight in putting this piece together.
Composer’s Notes
I was delighted when I found this short poem by Chelsea Pritchard to use for this round. The poem talks about that electricity that is so evident when you’re near someone special, embodied here as “tiny little sparks.” The first half of the piece sets the stage, and the second half lets us sit back and enjoy the little pinpoints of light.
Text
i had a dream
that we were sitting together in comfortable silence
and when we touched,
there were all these tiny little sparks
